CLUB HISTORY
The Rotary Club of Hundred Islands came into being on
May 22, 2002 upon the issuance of its Charter by the Rotary
International.
Rotary is not new in the Province of Pangasinan and in
the City of Alaminos. Rotary Club of Dagupan has been in existence since the
1930s and the Rotary Club of Western Pangasinan in the 1980s. Towards the turn
of the century, the heat of Rotarianism started to fizzle out in Western
Pangasinan.
It was in the later part of 2001 that Rotary Club of
Dagupan started holding consultations and meetings with the members of the
Rotary Club of Western Pangasinan for the possible revival of the club. On
April 17, 2002, then District Governor Mark O. Go, thru a letter to then Rtn.
Delfin Fin L. Rosario, made an instruction to the latter to
coordinate and organize a meeting on April 24, 2002 to be presided by the
former for the formation of Rotary Club of Alaminos but was later renamed
Rotary Club of Hundred Islands. During the said meeting, a set of interim
officers were elected headed by Interim President Augusto Auggee
Alvarado. They were tasked to recruit new members and work for the chartering
of the club.
On May 2, 2002, the first ever weekly meeting for the
Rotary Club of Hundred Islands was held at Splits Pizza, Centerpoint
Shopping Center, C.P. Garcia St., Alaminos City. On May 9, 2002, the first set
of Board of Directors were elected. On May 16, 2002, the first set of officers
were elected with Interim President Auggee as the Charter President. On May 22,
2002, the Rotary International issued the charter to Rotary Club of Hundred
Islands. The following day, the Club elected its first President-Elect in the
person of businessman William Iam G. Chan. On May 29, 2002, the
officers and the members of the Board attended an orientation conducted by the
Rotary Club of Dagupan under the leadership of its President Clarence Zocyril
Decano.
The most prominent projects of the first set of
officers and members of the club are Books and Instructional Materials
Distribution, Kanen Ko Kanen Mo Feeding Program and Mangrove Planting and
Medical Dental Outreach Program.
On July 25, 2003, the club held its Second Induction
and Turnover Ceremonies at Vista de las Islas Hotel and Restaurant, Lucap,
Alaminos City, with Atty. Oscar Pareng Oca Orbos as Guest of Honor
and Speaker and District Governor Vitt O. Gutierrez as Inducting
Officer.
The club under the leadership of President William
Iam Chan continued some projects of the previous administration and
ventured into new ones like the Reflexology Program. The weekly meeting was
held at the second floor of McDonalds Restaurant in Alaminos City.
On September 3, 2004, the club held its Third Induction
and Turnover Ceremonies at Vista de las Islas Hotel and Restaurant, Lucap,
Alaminos City, with District Governor Jaypee Cadaing as Guest of Honor and
Speaker and Inducting Officer but due to unavoidable circumstances was not able
to make it so District Governor Elect Gerpy Erquiza, Jr, represented
him. The term of President Rommel Apigo is set to work with 17 new members who
inducted during the said ceremonies. The weekly meeting of the club at Delz
Foodhouse and Mellow Chow Restaurant alternately every other week. The
following were his projects during his term: Reflexology Seminar, Kanen Ko
Kanen Mo feeding program, Patak Vitamin A, Christmas Bazaar, Ballroom Dancing
fundraising project, Sakay na sa Tricycle Raffle Bonanza, hosting Group Study
Exchange delegates from District 7090 International District of Canada
and America, signing of Memorandum of Agreement for Sister Relation with RC
Olongapo Centennial, Cubao Sunrise, Cubao East, Diliman North, Katipunan,
Kamuning, Kagitingang Cubao, Mega EDSA, Prima Vida Cubao and San Bartolome.
On August 16, 2005, the club held its Fourth Induction
and Turn-Over Ceremonies at Vista de las Islas Hotel and Restaurant, Lucap,
Alaminos City, with District Governor Gerpy Erguiza as Guest of Honor and
Speaker. Governor-Elect Bishop Cinense Governor-Norminee Owens Torres and
Assistant Governor Mely Alfonso joined the roster of Inducting Officers.
There were eight (8) new members inducted during the
said occasion which joined the army of volunteers during the incumbent of
President Gus T. Ferrer. Communications and correspondence to the club could be
forwarded at Alaminos Law, Quezon Avenue, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
