When Bush Hill Park was chartered in December 1982, the
club members wanted some way of establishing their own identity. The club at
that time was one of six covering the London Borough of Enfield, and the first
evening club.
After researching for some local aspect which would be
appropriate, it was learned that the Cunard family of shipping line fame had
strong links with the district of Bush Hill Park, and lived in Halliwick House
on Bush Hill, before it became a home and school for handicapped girls.
Correspondence with Sir Guy Cunard, then the head of
the family, followed, and he kindly gave the club permission to use the family
coat of arms, without the central heraldic device, a helmet, which was Sir
Guy's own personal mark.
The Rotary Logo was an ideal replacement for the
centrepiece. Sir Guy was sent a copy of the final planned design, which he
approved, and so the design was adopted and appears on the club's banner.
The one error made at that time was the omission of our
district number from the banner. But to remain individual, we have retained the
original style.
Rotary Club of Bush Hill Park meets at 7.00 for 7.30
pm every Wednesday evening at:- The Jolly Farmers, Enfield Road, Enfield,
Middx, UK Visitors to our club are always assured of a warm welcome.
