Just a taste of what went on at Eastbourne!
An enjoyable weekend with some good presentations. One
of the most popular was the visit of a number of special four-legged friends of
the canine variety, who ably demonstrated their skills, acting as ears for
their hearing impaired owners. The Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is one of the
preferred charities in RIBI this year
<www.hearing-dogs.co.uk>.
The RI President's representative was Orcelik Balkan
from Turkey. To read his CV is an education, and to hear him speak an
inspiration.
RIBI President Mike Webb almost told us to throw away
the rule books! Not literally of course, but he very much believes that Rotary
must move with the times if it is to survive. Watch out for reports in the
District or RIBI websites to learn more.
Dr Gareth Davies presentation about the Helicopter
Emergency Medical Services was well worth listening to. If you want to know
more, visit the website <www.hems-london.org.uk>.
Socially, entertainment varied from a Barbershop
singing group, to a group called Beyond the Barricade performing Songs from the
Shows. And on Saturday Night a Banquet and Ball in the Winter
gardens.
A walk along the sea front in warm sunshine after the
Sunday morning closing sessions was a real treat before the tedious journey
home.
