Q. Why have a Cyber eClub, instead of a traditional
Rotary club?
A. Rotary eClubs are for individuals restricted in
their professional schedule, travel, personal mobility, or location such that
it is not possible to meet attendance requirements of a traditional Rotary
club, which is typically a weekly meeting in a specific location.
Q. Can a Rotarian do a makeup by simply signing on to
an eClub site?
A. No - but it is not that difficult. From Sunday
December 11th 2005 you will be able to make-up on this site. First you register
in the Forum and read through the most recent postings. Choose one and reply
making a worthwhile contribution to the discussion. You should then help your
club by making a posting in the 'Make-Up' section about yourself and a club
project, achievement or ambition. Then please make a small donation to our
sponsored charity. |

Q. Will eClub membership be an easier way to be a
Rotarian?
A. No. The same basic membership standards required for
membership in a traditional Rotary club will apply for membership in our Rotary
eClub. A person must be invited to join, a membership fee is charged.
Members are required to complete a minimum of 10 Participation Units per
quarter. Existing Rotarians who may wish to switch clubs and former Rotarians
who meet our special criteria are invited to apply.
Q. What will be the process for members of an existing
Rotary club who believe they meet the criteria and want to join our Rotary
eClub?
A. The individual must apply through his current club
president or District Governor. Each application must follow the normal review
by our eClub leadership. Rotarians from any Rotary District in any country
may apply provided their residence or place of work is in the Greater London
area. English is our official club language. Membership of a eClub is a
replacement for conventional club membership. No one may be a full member of
more than one Rotary Club.
Q. Will eClubs hold meetings at a specific time,
as do traditional Rotary clubs?
A. No. Attendance measurement in the Rotary eClub
will be based on the level of participation by a member in the Service Above
Self projects of our eClub. In order to participate in service projects
and other key activities of our eClub, a member will need to sign in and
review materials on our Rotary eClub website. Sign in can be done seven
days a week, 24 hours a day.
Q. What will eClub dues cost?
A. As with every Rotary club, dues will be determined
by the membership of the eClub.
Q. Friendship is a Rotary ingredient. Is there proof
friendships are developed over the Internet?.
A. Yes, friendships are developed over the Internet,
just as pen pals develop friendships. Many of us know of people meeting on the
Internet and helping each other, or becoming friends.
Q. Traditional Rotary clubs have a tie to their local
community. Will this Rotary eClub be tied to a local community?
A. A Rotary eClub's "community" is tied to our
common commitment to Service Above Self via the Four-way Test. There are no
geographic boundaries. Our eClub members may either do projects in our
local community, or do projects in their local geographic community.
Q. Will membership of the Rotary eClub allow me to
attend "meetings" anywhere in the world?"
A. Yes. If a member can obtain access to the Internet
they will be able to sign on to our Rotary eClub website and perform the
functions that are necessary to demonstrate attendance at a meeting. A member
can makeup at any other Rotary club in the world and that makeup will be
credited as a service hour.
Q. Are Rotary eClub members eligible to visit
other Rotary Clubs?
A. Yes. A Rotary eClub is a chartered club of
Rotary International. Its members have all the privileges and obligations of
Rotarians in any club.
Rotary eClubs are just like traditional
Rotary clubs in many respects. However, rather than having a set meeting time
and place, the club may meet from time to time in Central London, and on the
Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Members log on to the Web site and
review topics under discussion, and are expected to join a forum. The club's
members will be expected to participate in at least 20 online meetings, asking
questions, and sharing views and suggestions with other members. Attendance
will be measured by a minimum average of 10 hours of hands-on community service
per quarter in place of 'seat time' in a club, meaning the member determines
the activity, time and place.
The original idea, a bold high-tech step for Rotary
International, came out of the desire to reach out to those who, for a variety
of legitimate reasons, cannot regularly attend meetings of a Rotary club that
meets weekly at a physical location. Membership is open to individuals who
cannot meet traditional attendance requirements due to travel or business
restrictions or reside farther then 25 miles away from a traditional Rotary
club, or whose personal mobility is limited. |
