Night of a Thousand Dinners Campaign

Every half hour of every day a landmine claims another innocent victim. The only thing stopping us from eradicating the landmine problem is the funds to clear them.

Over 145 countries have signed the treaty banning landmines. Countries that have yet to sign the treaty have imposed moratoriums on landmine use and sale. This means that we have an opportunity to eradicate the impact of this indiscriminate weapon from the world within our lifetimes. The landmine problem uniquely solvable. A minefield only needs clearing once – and each area that’s made safe means another community can live free from the fear of landmines forever more.

Adopt-A-Minefield raises awareness and funds to clear landmines and help landmine survivors. We fund projects in Abkhazia, Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Laos, Mozambique and Vietnam. 100% of donations to Adopt-A-Minefield go directly to the projects we support because our administration costs are funded separately. We’d like to invite you to host a luncheon or dinner to raise funds to clear landmines and help landmine survivors as part of our 1000 Dinners campaign.

The Night of 1000 Dinners is an opportunity for people to come together, enjoy a meal and help solve the global landmine crisis. Events have been held in meeting halls, in local restaurants, and in private homes. For example, Rotary Clubs in District 1090 have successfully held frugal dinners or lunches where their normal meal was replaced with a simpler one, and the money saved was sent to Adopt-A-Minefield as a donation.

At Adopt-A-Minefield we pass on every penny of public donations to our mine action partners in the field. We’ve found that this is very popular with Rotary Clubs. Then, in addition to an initial thank you letter following a donation we will write to clubs again when the money has been allocated to a mine action project to say exactly what that project is. We then write again when the land has been cleared or the project completed showing the impact of your contribution.

I do hope your Rotary Club will help us save lives and limbs by holding a 1000 Dinners meal. If you’ve any queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me on 020 7925 1500. You will also find more information available on AAM website at www.landmines.org.uk.

eClub Turns Night into Day Raising £500 for Adopt A Minefield

President Stella opened her home for a brunch on November 6th to Rotarians from all over District 1130 as part of the 'Night of a Thousand Dinners' campaign being run in aid of the London based charity, Adopt a Minefield. Club member Keith Kelly is a Director of the Charity and he said "We have come together to enjoy fellowship with other Rotarians and in doing so have raised far more than I hoped for. I will let the club know exactly where this money is spent and they will see how much difference donations like this can help. Thank you all for your generosity".

Bush Hill Park, Edmonton , Enfield Chase, Southgate, Battersea and Westminster were all represented.

eClub London Centenary has been looking for projects and opportunities for international service. Following on from a donation towards communications equipment in hurricane shelters in New Orleans this fund raiser is the second in what we hope we be a long line of international projects.

Adopt a Mine Field provides funds and expertise in former war zones across the globe that are still struggling to clear often uncharted mine fields. The charity trains local people as mine clearers so that the communities get the mines cleared and the employment brings much needed cash into the local economy.

London Centenary will soon be launching extensions to our website that will enable Rotarians across the world to make up with us, and very shortly you will be able to donate to any of our charity programs, right here on the site.

Make sure you bookmark our pages on your browser and you too will be able to help us in our work. Thank you for visiting.
