We launched eMakeUp in December 2005 as a worldwide
service for visiting Rotarians
In the first year we have raised over £1200
($2300) from our visitors' generous contributions to clear landmines in south
east Asia. That is returning nearly 15,000 sq ft of mined land to productive
use.
eClub President Jeff said "We owe our fellow visting
Rotarians a great debt of gratitude in helping our small Club save lives and
re-invigorate communities in the former killing fields of Cambodia."
The original aim of eMakeUp was to replicate the
tradition of club visits to build Rotary fellowship. Making visiting Rotarians
welcome and giving them an opportunity to share the experience and achievements
of their own clubs with us and all the other Rotarians who visit us.

Over 500 Rotarians from around 30 countries have joined
and contributed to our eClub Forum with over 5,000 individual posts. Nearly 200
have made a contribution to the eClub's landmine project in lieu of buying a
club meal and received an official certificate of attendance. Two have gone on
to join our eClub!
We have learnt a great deal about how other Rotary
Clubs work. It is always humbling to see the great efforts being made a round
the world to support communities near and far in so many different
ways.
Rotary has so many unintended well kept secrets - not
only from the outside world but from each other. So perhaps our greatest
contribution is by creating a forum to share and discuss ideas out in the
open!
Again thank you all our vistors who have made a
contribution to the Forum and to clearing Landmines. 2006 was great, We hope
2007 will be greater! |
