ReC London Centenary Settles at an Eagle's Eyrie in the
FENS
On Sunday 2nd July several members of the ReC London
Centenary trekked to the Northern outpost of the empire and held it's
Presidential handover BBQ at the home of incoming President Jeff and his wife,
Lois. Not much of an eyrie though at only 4 feet above sea level, but waders
and wellies were provided.
IPP Stella is pictured enjoying some close fellowship
as she installed Jeff with his chain of Office, they exchanged badges and
Stella was presented with her Past President's medal. Before the installation
the guests enjoyed a BBQ (At least I think they enjoyed it (ed)) of the usual
BBQ fare and a delightful baked trout, caught be Stella's husband Ernie and
baked by Stella. Home made Sangria flowed too but only for the non drivers :-)
As a Centenary club Jeff is only the second President
and he is hoping that he will be able to guide the club to even greater success
during his year. In his message to the other club members (reproduced in the
forum and below) Jeff paid tribute to IPP Stella and her work in building the
club from a disparate group of people into a fully functioning Rotary Club.
Many established Bricks and Mortar Rotarians find it difficult to grasp the
concept of a club that meets on the Internet and wonder how we can enjoy
fellowship via our keyboards. This Saturday we proved that fellowship can take
place this way as several of us had not met in the flesh, we all gelled well
and even though Stella and Jeff have know each other for over 10 years as
members of ICUFR (International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians), they
have only met a on a few occasions... Well, that picture says it all :-)
Joking aside, a great time was had by all the guests
and we look forward into the new Rotary year with determination to grow the
membership of this first UK eClub and the successful completion of our first
International project at Emerald Hill Children's Home in Zimbabwe (See Forum
for details) You can join us in our work, look around our site and see the
opportunities to serve. In addition to the Emerald Hill Project we will be
continuing our donations to Adopt a Minefield, the mine clearing charity, and
building on what we have achieved so far.
Please feel free to join in our public forums and if
you are a Rotarian away from home you can make up attendance with us.
