Rotarian Dr Martin Schimmel runs London Marathon for the YMCA

Founder eClub member Dr Martin Schimmel and partner Cathryn will be running the London Marathon for the YMCA on St Georges Day 23rd April 2006 with a target of raising £2,400.

Martin was born in 1973 in Thuringia, Germany moving to Wiesbaden, Germany in 1984. In 1999 he graduated from the University of Mainz in Dentistry and took a Doctor´s degree the year after and came to England in 2004. Martin's first employer in Northampton was the founding president of the Rotary Club Northampton Becket and introduced him to Rotary.

Martin now practices dentistry in a major Islington practice. His partner Cathryn is commuting between Hamburg and london which means as a frequent european traveller Martin finds the eClub more accessible than a traditional Rotary Club.

London Marathon

Martin says: "I will run the London Marathon on the 23rd April in order to raise some money for the YMCA. Why I have chosen to support the YMCA charity? The YMCA is the largest provider of safe, secure and affordable housing in England, eg. every night over 7,000 young people stay at a YMCA!!!"

"Cathryn and I are training very hard. After work almost every day since July 2005 and of course on the weekends we do the long runs. It is not easy to get out of bed - in the cold in winter on a Sunday morning. I have committed myself to a strenuous training schedule and to raising a minimum of £1200. I really would appreciate your help".
