Obituary - Founding eClub Rotarian Natasha Wignarajah

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the tragically premature passing of Natasha Wignarajah, a valued friend and work colleague who left us on 30/07/06 at the age of 38 after losing her battle against cancer. .

Natasha qualified as an OT in 1995 from the Royal London Hospital Medical College having initially studied Psychology at Salford University. Natasha was gifted with a natural warmth and humour which enabled her to establish an instant rapport with all those with whom she came into contact. It was this disarming and laid-back charm that she became renowned for and these same virtues which shall be missed by those closest to her.

Despite her easygoing nature, Natasha was equally capable of being forthright and outspoken when the mood took her, qualities which she frequently directed at perceived sources of inequality and injustice.

Natasha

She was a harsh critic of totalitarian regimes across the world, choosing to devote her own time towards voluntary work for Amnesty International and other similar humanitarian causes. Natasha was a founder member of the first Rotary eClub in the UK where she was Secretary until her illness prevented her continuing with this work.

Natasha demonstrated an unflinching empathy with all people and was a great advocate for the vulnerable. She was equally devoted to her friends and family and would frequently surprise those around her with random acts of generosity. Her clinical skills as a therapist were exemplary and the depth of her clinical knowledge underscored a fiercesome intellect which she was able to direct with almost casual disdain. This was evidenced by her meteoric rise at Enfield Social Services where she was initially enrolled on student placement but ascended the hierarchy, gaining the post of Assistant Team Manager with uncharacteristic rapidity. In recent years Natasha was a Director of the OT Partnership from where she was able to carry out various OT Management Contracts and OT case work in a number of NHS and Local Government Depts as well as Charity Organisations.

We sure that we will be joined by all those whose lives she touched when we extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to her family and friends at such a tragic loss. Natasha showed immense courage and dignity throughout her illness and her first thoughts were often for those closest to her. She is remembered with huge affection and respect.
