Opportunity to improve ties with the media

Clubs and Districts seek to strengthen their relationships with the media. One opportunity to improve ties with the media is to award an honour for humanitarian-based news reporting. Rotary International Humanitarian Reporting Awards recognize the contributions journalists have made to help the general public better understand humanitarian, health, education and cross-cultural issues. Rotary members should be on the watch for exceptional stories and examples of outstanding humanitarian reporting in their area.

Most outstanding journalist

RIBI have instituted the award to recognise the contribution of the most outstanding journalist in this field in Great Britain and Ireland for his or her efforts to promote world understanding through their writing and to present this award at the upcoming RIBI Conference.

Rotary and the media need to work together

The award is not just about building relationships for Rotary. Through technology and cultural awareness the world is becoming closer. We are learning of news everywhere that affects us. There is a need to recognize the impact and value of humanitarian writing. Rotary and the media need to work together to share stories of hope. Having a journalism award creates ties between Rotary and the general public.
